New Ways to Find Lost Pets Unveiled by Animal Care & Control

Adoptable and Lost/Found Pet Searches Improved on Muni.org

Anchorage Animal Care and Control Center (AACCC) is excited to announced their new online features for the Adoptable and Lost/Found Pet pages on www.muni.org/animal. These enhancements have been integrated into the current website to better serve the public, the shelter and ultimately, the animals.

Sign up to automatically receive emails on animals entering the shelter!

One of the most common inquiries received at AACCC are requests from community members to be contacted when specific breeds that match their missing pet enter the shelter as strays, or when specific breeds they wish to adopt become available. Through the new integration between Muni.org and the AACCC database system, community members can sign up to automatically receive emails on animals they have lost, animals they have found or animals that they wish to adopt. They can restrict their selection based on breed, age, gender and even color.

Awesome New Volunteer Videos!

Here’s a quick clip that is too much fun to watch!!  Fun in the snow with Ren (A174764).  Ren is currently available for adoption!

Also, here is a clip of some great new work volunteers are doing to help keep dogs up for adoption mentally stimulated while they are with us!  So much fun it’s hard to believe it’s good for them too!

Watch adoptable AACCC dogs Samantha and Flower try to find the hidden cookies during this mind and scent game. Some dogs really think through it and some just leap on the toy until it dispenses their treat – either approach is fun to watch and great mental stimulation for the dogs. Mind games help keep shelter dogs healthy during their stay with us. Join us every Wednesday for dog enrichment at AACCC. Bring cookies.

Pet of the Week – Chief (A175760)

UPDATE 2/15:  Chief has been adopted!

Here is the Anchorage Daily News Dog Blog Pet of the Week:

Chief (A175760)

Please meet Chief, a 2 year old, neutered male, pit bull mix.  This happy boy will do whatever he can to please.  He is active but easy-going and laid-back, easy to walk and handle, listens well, and has an affectionate, endearing personality. After his exercise, he loves relaxing and cuddling on the couch, and is particularly fond of belly rubs. He’s lived with children, rides well in the car, likes bones, balls, and playing. Chief can be adopted for $72, as he is already neutered, which includes his MOA license, vaccinations, and microchip.

Chief has been the staf of two volunteer videos – Check him out!

Shelter Pet Project Releases New PSAs

Here are some of the new Shelter Pet Project Public Service Announcements,  featuring characters from Patrick McDonnell’s endearing comic strip, “MUTTS,” and animated by award winning animator Paul Fierlinger. This series of PSAs give shelter pets a voice to explain that it’s not their fault that they ended up in shelters and that, “There’s nothing wrong with shelter pets.” Please aid the mission to eradicate the negative stigma associated with Shelter Pets. Visit us at http://www.theshelterpetproject.org for more information.

These Public Service Announcements are a joint development by The Ad Council, Maddie’s Fund, and The Humane Society of the United States. The campaign encourages everyone – dog people, cat people, pro-adoption advocates – to visit The Shelter Pet Project website (www.theshelterpetproject.org) to learn more about adopting a shelter pet, and possibly even find their perfect pet.

Pet Health Care Videos Launch on ASPCA.org

Prevention is truly the best medicine—even when it comes to your pet. It’s much riskier (not to mention more expensive!) to treat illnesses than to protect against them. So why not get a jumpstart on your pet’s healthy habits? Watch their new pet care videos for helpful hints on performing basic wellness checks and essential grooming from the comfort of your own home.

The ASPCA’s Dr. Jennifer Lander and a rotating cast of adorable, adoptable cats and dogs star in these useful “how-tos.” Current videos include “Performing a Basic Pet Check”, “Cleaning Your Cat’s Eyes”, “How to Clean Your Dog’s Ears” and a bonus blooper reel!

Please note [from the ASPCA]: our advice is not intended to replace regular visits to your veterinarian. More videos will be added regularly, so be sure to bookmark our pet care video webpage and check back every few weeks.
