UPDATE 12/3: All of the parakeets have been adopted!
UPDATE 12/2: 10 parakeets have been adopted, but we still have 15 looking for new homes.

Anchorage Animal Care and Control Center currently has over 20 parakeets up for adoption. They were brought in to the shelter after being abandoned by their owner. All of these happy, bright little guys love to chirp and sing—and would be a great addition to any bird loving home! Parakeets can be wonderful pets, living 15-25 years. They can be very social, enjoying being stroked and held once they get to know you. Smart and easily trained, they can be taught basic commands, such as “step down” to move off you and when you put them back in their cage. Parakeets are social animal and do best with company. They are $5 each to adopt.
