Birds Involved in Cruelty Case Available for Adoption SUNDAY

Animal Care and Control offering free food and cages to find animals homes

Anchorage Animal Care and Control Center (AACCC) recently took in over 100 animals from two separate animal cruelty cases. The birds, one cockatiel and many parakeets, involved in one of the cases were recently surrendered to AACCC and health examinations have been completed on all of the birds. The birds will be available for adoption through AACCC starting this Sunday, February 12. They can be adopted for $5 each, and each adopter will receive a bag of parakeet food and a cage with their adoption, while donated supplies last.

Regular veterinary care is important to the heath of all pets. Pet birds may also require regular veterinary exams to assess their general health needs, including the health of their beak, wings, tail, and feet.

Potential adopters will be able to meet the birds and complete their adoptions, beginning Sunday, during our normal business hours: Saturday/Sunday, 10am-6pm, and Monday-Friday, 11am-7pm.

We would like to thank the community for their outpouring of support for the animals in these cases. The response has been tremendous! Along with the large numbers of individuals that provided supplies, there were also many local businesses and organizations that offered their support including:  Alaska Bird Club, Alaska Mill and Feed, Alaska SPCA, Arctic Tails, Carrs, Dog Tired Doggie Daycare, Fred Meyer, Friends of Pets, Kitty & K-9 Connection, Pet Zoo, Pfizer Animal Health, Polar Pug Rescue, and many others. We would like to thank everyone that gave so generously and came out to help the shelter and these animals!

The dogs and cats from both recent cases are still involved in the legal process and are not available for adoption at this time. If additional animals in either case become available through AACCC, information will be issued on how people can adopt at that time.
