AACCC Requesting Needed Supplies

Some may have caught the news coverage of Anchorage Police Department arresting 2 men in Eagle River on animal cruelty charges.  AACCC have intaken the animals involved in that case, as well as a seperate case the same day.  We have received many calls from the public asking how they can help.  Here is the press release we have issued today to update the public on our needs.  We thank everyone for their interest in helping and their patience as we work our way through the legal process on these cases.

100 Animals Arrive at Animal Care and Control From Cruelty Cases:  Shelter requesting needed supplies

On January 14, 2012, the Anchorage Police Department (APD) charged twoEagleRivermen with animal cruelty.  Consequently, Anchorage Animal Care and Control Center (AACCC) took in 39 dogs and over 40 parakeets connected to this case.  APD also issued animal cruelty charges the same day in a case involving 22 cats, which are now also housed at AACCC.

Due to the large intake of animals over the weekend and the many requests from members of the public wishing to help, AACCC is requesting the following supplies.  Items can be brought to AACCC at4711 Elmore Road during business hours: Monday-Friday, 11am-7pm, Saturday and Sunday, 10am-6pm. 

Supplies currently needed are:

Non-clumping cat litter (clay litter preferred)
Parakeet food
Small, clean blankets and towels
Canned dog food
Canned cat food
Dry Science Diet small breed dog food

Local Groomer Arctic Tails is currently assisting with the bathing and grooming of dogs involved in theEagleRivercase.  Members of the public wishing to contribute to these efforts and defray a portion of the cost can contact Arctic Tails at 360-3220. 

AACCC has received many calls from persons interested in fostering or adopting animals involved in theEagleRivercase.  Due to legal aspects common with animal cruelty cases, these animals will not be available for placement for some time.  If the animals in this case become available through AACCC, information will be issued on how people can adopt at that time.  We would like to thank everyone that has expressed interest in helping these animals.

    I know I’d sure like to take a look at them when they become available. definitely want to make a donation so will be calling Arctic Tails tomorrow. thanks so much for the info.
